Beşiktaş Officially Announces New Head Coach: Ruben Garabaya Arenas Takes Charge

Turkish champions Beşiktaş have officially unveiled their new head coach following the departure of Oliver Roy Camino. The club has appointed Spanish coach Ruben Garabaya Arenas as the new leader of the Black Eagles' handball team.

After winning the 2025–26 Ardventure Men's Handball Super League title, Beşiktaş moved quickly to fill the vacancy left by Camino, who will now focus exclusively on his role with the Turkish Men's National Team. 

In an official statement shared on the club's social media accounts, Beşiktaş announced:

 "Ruben Garabaya Arenas has been appointed as the Head Coach of Beşiktaş Handball Team. We welcome Ruben Garabaya Arenas to our club and wish him every success in his new role."

 Who is Ruben Garabaya Arenas?

Born on September 15, 1978, in Avilés, Spain, Ruben Garabaya Arenas began his handball career with Ademar León. A distinguished player during his professional career, he earned 168 caps for the Spanish National Team and was part of one of Spain's most successful handball generations. Following his retirement, Garabaya transitioned into coaching and steadily built an impressive résumé: 

2017/18: Head Coach of BM Logroño La Rioja U19 Team 

2017/18: Assistant Coach of the Spanish National Team 

2018–2021: Assistant Coach at BM Logroño La Rioja 

2021: Head Coach of the China Women's U18 National Team 

2021: Assistant Coach of the Egyptian National Team 

2022–2025: Head Coach of BM Sinfín 

2025/26: Head Coach of Eurofarm Pelister, one of the clubs competing in the EHF Champions League Coaching 

Education and Qualifications 

Garabaya has also invested heavily in his coaching development, holding several prestigious qualifications: 

2021: Advanced Handball Statistics University Diploma – Sports Data Campus 

2018/19: EHF Master Coach Certification – Spanish Handball Federation 

2003/05: National Handball Coaching License – Spanish Handball Federation 

2003/05: Higher Technical Sports Education Certificate – Spanish Ministry of Education 

With extensive international experience both as a player and coach, Ruben Garabaya Arenas now begins a new chapter in Türkiye as he takes charge of Beşiktaş, aiming to build on the club's recent domestic success and compete at the highest level in the seasons ahead.
