World-renowned French handball star Cedric Sorhaindo has officially ended his illustrious playing career while wearing the Beşiktaş jersey, expressing his happiness and gratitude for the time he spent in Türkiye.
The legendary pivot played the final match of his professional career in Beşiktaş’s last game of the season against Nilüfer Belediyespor. Sorhaindo brought the curtain down on a remarkable 22-year career after helping Beşiktaş secure both the Turkish Handball Super League title and the Turkish Cup during the 2025–26 season.
Speaking after his emotional farewell, Sorhaindo described the moment as one of the most significant of his life.
“It is a very intense emotion after 22 years of my career. Everything feels complicated right now. Most of the emotions I am experiencing are related to this moment. There are so many things going through my mind, but I am very happy,” Sorhaindo said.
The former French international also highlighted the positive impact Türkiye had on him both professionally and personally.
“I learned many wonderful things from Turkish culture. Turkish culture is beautiful. I wish all the best for the future of the league,” he added.
Sorhaindo leaves the sport as one of the most decorated handball players of his generation. Throughout his career, he achieved major success with both the French national team and at club level, winning Olympic, World, and European Championship titles, while also becoming a key figure during his years at Barcelona.
His final season with Beşiktaş ended in perfect fashion, as the experienced pivot celebrated a domestic double before saying goodbye to professional handball.
As one of the game's most respected figures, Cedric Sorhaindo departs the court with an unforgettable legacy and cherished memories from his final chapter in Turkish handball.
