Uncertainity Before Iceland Game For The Men
Turkish National Men’s Handball Team do not know what to expect before the away game against Iceland on Saturday, before the last group game of EHF EURO 2020, after the national football team had problems entering the country for UEFA EURO 2020 qualifying game.
Turkish National Men’s Football Team arrived in Reykjavik after a surprise victory against the world champions France, six days before Turkish National Handball Team’s visit to Iceland for the last game of European Handball Championships qualification phase. As forward Burak Yılmaz shared the moments from his Instagram account, the team kept on waiting in the customs after an extensive thorough check on all the luggages, as well as a disrespectful “trolling” incident where Emre Belözoğlu, the captain, was mocked by a self appointed journalist who used a toilet brush instead of a microphone whilst he was being interviewed.
Okan Halay, the assistant coach of Turkish National Men’s Handball Team was the guest of this weeks TATA – the Turkish handball podcast – where he said “Of course the main idea is to win against North Macedonia, which would take us to the second place before the last game. Yet, every single one of us are quite unsure about what would wait for us after what happened to the football team. This has nothing to do with sports, so i hope that whatever is going on, will end before our trip. Altough we might use brooms as a joke too…”
Turkey will play their last game against the group favourites Iceland, where a draw might be able to secure both teams qualification if Turkey is to win against North Macedonia, tomorrow, in Eskişehir.
